State of Emergency in Ferguson, Missouri, Extended at Least 24 Hours

Unrest broke out again on Monday night as angry demonstrators threw stones and bottles at police. He wasn’t convinced much was accomplished.

Brown’s killing by Officer Darren Wilson sparked outrage and protests nationwide against what some described as racial bias by the police.

A tense moment came Tuesday when a few dozen people briefly blocked traffic.

St. Louis County’s “State of Emergency” will remain in effect for at least one more day. About 20 minutes later, troopers cleared the roadway, walking with protesters toward the shoulder and apparently arresting some of them in a nearby parking lot. Brown was fatally shot by a Ferguson officer on August. 9, 2014. But following his death was as wave of other unarmed black or Hispanic men being killed by white police officers in Baltimore, New York City, Washington state and other locations across the nation.

The hospitalized Northwoods teen is expected survive his injuries, his father, Tyrone Harris Sr., said Wednesday, two days after he said his son was being depicted “like a criminal”.

The gunfire and Harris’s shooting set the city on edge and had protest leaders anxious that tensions would escalate.

There were no arrests Tuesday night in Ferguson, compared to 23 arrests Monday night, the first evening when the state of emergency allowed county police to take operational command of Ferguson. Shots were fired and a young man could be seen brandishing what looked like a pistol.

“My wrongful arrest while trying to record police abuse is further evidence that law enforcement has nothing but contempt for political resistance and those who would try to protect it.” He has not discussed the incident further since the release of the incriminating video.

While one member was being interviewed by media, several protesters gathered around and chanted loud enough to drown him out briefly.
