Police block top Ireland Olympic executives from leaving Brazil
The OCI’s Dublin-based public relations agency said three Irish personnel had passports, phones and laptops confiscated. “We will talk to the Rio organisers to confirm this”.

Official Dermot Henihan was interviewed on Tuesday and is free to leave Brazil.
Police say they seized more than 1,000 tickets from THG Sports in two separate raids in Rio.
Ireland’s ticketing processes for Olympic Games at both London 2012 and Sochi 2014 are to be studied as part of wide-ranging Government investigation headed by a retired High Court Judge, it was announced today.
RTÉ says the development is part of an ongoing investigation and there is nothing to suggest impropriety on the part of any of those involved.
Footie boss Delaney has previously been identified by Hickey as “the favourite” to take charge at the OCI in the future.
Brazilian police have said that their investigation revealed the OCI facilitated the transferal of tickets to the Marcus Evans-owned THG Group.
Police are seeking to establish if the decision to grant the ticketing licence for Rio 2016 first to THG and secondly to PRO10 was mutual or made independently by Mr Hickey.
It followed earlier operations by police against what they say is an worldwide ticket scalping ring. They agreed to do so.
Police said they seized hundreds of tickets from Mallon some of which had the Olympic Council of Ireland name on them.
It follows a Brazilian police raid on Irish Olympic officials on the last day of the Rio Games, where they also seized computers, cellphone, and unused tickets in a rapidly expanding investigation.
Hickey and others were behind the large-scale touting of Olympic tickets.
The official, Pat Hickey, formerly served as president of the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) and was a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
THG and PRO10 have denied any wrongdoing over ticket sales. Hickey was due to be spending the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Rio’s Bangu prison complex after his lawyers failed to secure his release on bail.
He had his head shaved on arrival at the tough prison.
The OCI board is due to meet in Dublin to discuss the issue on Sunday evening.
The arrests are an embarrassment for the International Olympic Committee, which has, so far, not criticized or supported Hickey.
THG executive Kevin Mallon was also arrested. Their statement reads: “Mr Hickey did not try to escape as informed by the police”. Pro10 was the authorised ticket reseller (ATR) for the OCI. However, it said that under its articles of association his fees will be paid if he is not convicted of the offences.

It confirmed that it will “co-operate fully with a State inquiry and it will now appoint an external independent firm to carry out a review”.
