Twenty-one years after Barry Sonnenfeld’s comedy Get Shorty became a box office hit, it’s poised to make a splash as an hour-long TV series on EPIX, and EW has confirmed the upcoming dark comedy might’ve found its leading man in Irish actor Chris O’Dowd.
Davey Holmes (Shameless, In Treatment) adapted the project for the small screen and will executive produce the 10-episode straight-to-series drama. He tries to change jobs for the sake of his daughter and becomes a movie producer, laundering money through his latest film. However, his dreams of getting away from the criminal world are dashed when it follows him to LA. If cast, Romano will play Rick, a has-been film producer who attempts to guide Miles through his career in Hollywood. O’Dowd will play the new iteration of Chili, named Miles Daly, and Romano will play the Zimm-equivalent, Rick. He’s with WME and 3 Arts. He will next be seen in the feature Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
For Emmy victor Romano, the role marks his latest small-screen gig following HBO’s Vinyl, Parenthood, Men of a Certain Age and Everybody Loves Raymond.

The new series debuts in the summer of 2017 with production starting in the fall. It is the third original series for Epix – a joint venture between Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM. All three shows will appear on all of EPIX’s channels, EPIX On demand, Epix.com and TV Everywhere platforms.
