Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri sets high bar for Riyad Mahrez

Leicester City and Arsenal continue their search for a first win of the season after they drew 0-0 in Saturday’s clash at King Power Stadium in the defending Premier League champion Foxes’ home opener.

However, the Foxes still managed to win their first-ever Premier League title after Ranieri’s men finished 10 points ahead of the north London outfit last season.

The return of playmaker-in-chief Mesut Ozil is a huge boost for the club, as he is often the lynchpin in midfield for the side.

He is already off the mark in this new campaign, having scored from the spot during Leicester’s 2-1 opening-day loss to Hull City on Saturday.

Leicester will be looking to get their first points on Saturday when they host Arsenal at home – they will hope to do better than a year ago when they lost 5-2 back in September.

As far as the game, this was a boring one, with the Foxes content to let Arsenal keep possession and play on the counter.

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez was phenomenal for Leicester City last season, scoring 17 goals and registering 11 assists in 2015-16. Arsenal simply must play up to the talent level of their first-team squad to stay relevant and not leave their first couple of matches without any points.

Wenger said: “I don’t feel that, no, we have plenty of players who want to join us and I would say even the older players who have left, 99.5 per cent of the players who have left have asked to come back – he is one of them”.

Only five minutes into the second half, with the score remaining level at 0-0, the Foxes were dealt an injury blow.

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri needs one more win to reach 100 Premier League wins.

Leicester’s opening result could scarcely have been more chastening, as they lost to a Hull team who are now without a permanent manager and who were able to select only 13 fit senior players.

“He has to play better because we are now also in the Champions League and we need something more to play against these big teams”, Ranieri told journalists on Thursday.

“It seems nearly inevitable that either Mahrez or Vardy will score after their links with Arsenal this summer and subsequent new contracts, especially with an understrength Arsenal defence”, says ESPN.
