Streaking across the semi-final, Bolt looks over his left shoulder and flashes a smile before easing past the finishing line, posting a time of 9.86 seconds.
He competes in the 200-meter event beginning Tuesday.
“I’m not even going to get into what happened because I can not change it”, Campbell-Brown said.
“I was exhausted and I’m never exhausted before the 100-meter”, he added.

Rio’s Olympic Stadium lit up Monday when Murer’s teammate Thiago Braz Da Silva trumped Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie for gold in the men’s competition with an Olympic record of 6.03m.

Bolt went on to win gold in the 100-meter for the third straight time in the Olympics on Sunday. It seemed like Gatlin could have won the race, however, with the long strides and the speed of Bolt, the Jamaican was able to catch up and win the gold for his country at a time of 9.81 seconds.
“I didn’t because I was exhausted going into the finals and I was just like ‘let me focus on what I need to focus on, ‘” he said.
She couldn’t be more elated over the breakout of teammate Elaine Thompson, the 24-year-old up-and-comer who won 100-meter gold on Saturday.
American Justin Gatlin, the silver medalist, said the quick turnaround sapped his strength so much, he couldn’t even think about winning. She also made it into the final in 2012, but finished fourth.
“I have the utmost respect for Usain”, the 34-year-old said. “I’m very happy for him”.
The world’s fastest man already holds both the world record at 19.19 seconds and the Olympic record at 19.30 in the 200m.
“I wasn’t pleased”, Bolt said, in answer to the first question he was asked at the winner’s news conference.

“If I can get good night’s rest after the semifinals, it’s a possibility I can do it”, Bolt said. There are so many positions in the stadium, it’s really kind of figuring out what angle you want to get on that race, and then getting there early enough to stake your claim.
