But now the publication is splitting into two groups: BuzzFeed’s news and entertainment groups will split.

BuzzFeed founder Jonah Peretti announced the reorganization in a memo he sent to the company’s staff.

By applying its viral content strategy to video productions, BuzzFeed has turned its Motion Pictures wing into a major part of its profile.

The first rule of reporting on BuzzFeed is that you must always, always, remind readers that despite whatever journalistic high to which you are referring, the site is “better known for its listicles and cat videos”, or something along those lines.

BuzzFeed says it will not organise itself around a specific format or technology, but will try to take advantage of al; avenues – including short and long form video, posts, lists and quizzes.

BuzzFeed is reorganizing into two departments that will split its entertainment and news divisions.

BF in April cut its revenue forecast for 2016 in half to $250M after it missed 2015 revenues by 32 percent with $170M.

BFN will be run by BuzzFeed editor in chief, Ben Smith and will include existing editorial groups, including BuzzFeed’s health team and its global news operation – which includes beat reporters, its breaking news team, investigative reporters, and foreign correspondents.

The media giant will now operate BuzzFeed News as well as a newly-created entity dubbed BuzzFeed Entertainment Group (BFEG).

“This structure will allow us to be better at entertainment and better at news”, said Peretti.

“We have ambitious goals for both departments”, he wrote in Tuesday’s memo. “And we are in position to build the the #1 global news brand for a new generation who consume news differently than their parents, but care passionately about what is happening in a quickly-changing world”.
