Most of their staff had already been fleshed out as the summer progressed – but in the final week of August, the Pacific Division club announced three more coaching staff hires.
The team announced Wednesday that Braid was added as the Coyotes full-time skating coach, after joining the franchise on a part-time basis a year ago.
The Arizona Coyotes have hired Dawn Braid as skating coach, making her what is believed to be the first full-time female coach in National Hockey League history.
Braid worked as a part-time instructor for the Coyotes past year, and she previously was a consultant with the Maple Leafs, Ducks, Sabres and Flames.
Ms. Baird previously served as Director of skating development at Athletes Training Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
“Dawn always says, ‘If you didn’t train properly and do the certain things you need to do, you’re not going to be strong enough to do the things I want you to do'”.

“We feel that Dawn can provide a real competitive advantage for our team”, Chayka said. “The game is getting faster and it is all about skating. Dawn is someone who Tip (Tippett) and I respect and we feel she is someone who is going to be a very important asset for us”. The bottom line is that she gets results, and that’s the key thing. Smith’s hiring followed that of Jen Welter by the Arizona Cardinals to a multi-week internship a year ago, making her the NFL’s first female position coach. The move comes as other major sports have begun to hire female coaches as well, paving the way for the first female head coach in of a major men’s sports team.
