What are Arsenal lacking? Former club legend takes a hit at Wenger

And while Arsenal are still looking for an experienced defender in the transfer market, and have been in talks with Valencia over Shkodran Mustafi, Wenger said Holding’s performance showed that splashing cash is not always the answer.

“They [fans] are highly influenced by the media and that is part of the process today”. This last five-six years Arsenal went more with this type of mobile, technical players who are completely different.

Do you think it would be good to have a former Arsenal player work with the players? “He has played centre-forward at Barcelona”.

Tony Pulis seems resigned to losing Jonny Evans as the former Manchester United star, surprisingly has been linked with a move to Arsenal. “He has similar qualities [to Suarez]”, Wenger said.

Sanchez was Arsenal’s top scorer in his first season at the Emirates but missed a large chunk of his second campaign with an injury.

And so even if Arsenal don’t have any luck in the transfer window, Wenger is confident he has enough options to cope – and hasn’t ruled out using Walcott up front again.

But Vieira says the style of the team has seen a transition since the likes of Adams and Campbell wore the Gunners jersey.

“When you are talking about Thierry, Ljungberg, Robert Pires, Keown, they are well respected in the club, they have been professional players and good examples for the kids, all of them doing their badges, so that means they really want to do it”. We were shocking at the back last week but Koscielny’s return will be a huge boost and I think we’ll come away with a hard fought point. The ideal example is Ajax. “It’s a team that is very well organised, it’s very hard to create chances”.

“You can spend as much as you want, I don’t believe that will guarantee the titles, but the better players you have the better chance you have”, he said. But nobody speaks about the game anymore, it is all about money.

The 30-year-old centre-back sustained a back injury in training on Friday and Wenger admitted he was a major doubt going into the match at the King Power Stadium. The 28-year-old could still turn out to be a great signing for the side as he would not cost more than £10 million, which would be a bargain for the manager.
