The state says Louisiana’s composite score has edged up three consecutive years, while the national average has dropped.
According to a release, the percentage of public school students in Commonwealth meeting the college-readiness benchmark in each assessed area in 2016 was 15 or more points higher than the national percentages.
And in case you’re wondering, 2,235 students nationwide earned a flawless score this year, up from 1,598 in 2015, according to ACT officials.
Seventy-four percent of Kansas high school seniors took the 2016 ACT test, compared to 64 percent nationally.
Eight of the 11 regular education and magnet programs in Clayton County saw marked increases year-to-year on the college entrance exam, according to the department’s results. “Here, in Cobb, the number of students taking the ACT has increased, but we have such well-prepared students that our average has gradually gone up”.
The program offering free ACT exams to high school juniors only ran for one year, before it was dropped by the Department of Education after budget cuts. The top score on the ACT test is a 36. “We know that with the right preparation they will do better in college and be more likely to graduate within four or five years”. “In a situation such as this, it’s not at all surprising that overall achievement levels went down”. “Students excel when presented with challenging and interest-driven projects or instruction”. “Until we all share responsibility, we won’t see the change we want to see”.
“Continued student gains on the ACT reflect the collective commitment of key state and local partners to prepare each graduate for success beyond high school”, said State Board President, Billy K. Cannaday Jr. Closing the achievement gap has become a prime concern of many state education experts. Pruitt has reached out to citizens and established work groups to make recommendations on a new accountability system that will be implemented in 2017.
“We’re really pushing hard to to get more kids to take it”, Iowa City Superintendent Stephen Murley said. Only one of the 13 highest-scoring states – Washington – is not in the Northeast. In 2016, 24,488 Kansas students took the ACT, an increase of 780 students over 2015.
A total of 21,824 Virginia 2016 public school graduates took the ACT. Among the 19 states that require all students to take the test though, Wisconsin ranked fourth, coming in behind Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado.

MA high school students in the class of 2016 had the country’s highest scores on the ACT exam, state officials announced Wednesday. The district’s best-performing school, Union Grove High, moved its average scores from 22.3 in 2015 to 22.6 in 2016.
