Target’s decision this week to stop labeling toys for boys or girls pissed off a lot of people, who then unleashed their displeasure on the company’s Facebook page.

In response, a Facebook troll called Ask ForHelp has been responding to these unhappy customers with hilariously snarky comments, pretending to represent Target customer service.

Melgaard told Facebook readers that his trolling began Sunday evening and continued Monday morning before his phony account was reported and closed. “I definitely side with Target and support their decision wholeheartedly”, Melgaard told Ad Week.

As for Target, the company has a sense of humor about it. After a post that said Melgaard “was not speaking on behalf of Target”, it later posted a picture of two troll dolls on its Facebook page with the caption: “Remember when Trolls were the kings of the world?”

Well, as it turns out Mike Melgaard’s name might sound familiar to some of you – he’s originally from the Chippewa Valley, having graduated from Altoona High School. Ars Technica points out that “rather than checking for a verified blue checkmark or other proof of its legitimacy”, they believed that Ask ForHelp was legit at first glance and sought repeatedly to report him to Target overlords.

As Facebook poster Jackie Brady says, “Whoever is your social media person needs a raise”.

Facebook has since deleted the account.
