The legacy of Phelps is far from over and could even grow from here, as if one thing is for certain it’s that he will continue to be involved in the Olympic setup in some capacity for years to come.

Phelps’ long-time coach Bob Bowman said swimming was unlikely to see anyone of his sort again. “Absolutely not. I’m not even looking”.

Puerto Rico, a territory of the US, has fielded teams in the Summer Olympics since 1948, and this was the first medal, of any variety, for a woman representing Puerto Rico.
Blume was the third Danish swimmer to capture a gold.
Manuel became the first Afro-American individual swimming gold medallist when she won the 100m freestyle on Thursday. Paltrinieri’s fellow Italian Gabriele Detti took the bronze medal in 14:40.86.

“I’m not going four more years and I’m standing by that”, he insisted after finishing in a three-way tie for silver in the 100m butterfly final.
