Having been labelled as “unsellable” earlier in the year by Sion president Christian Constantin, the 20-year-old could make his debut for the club away to Manchester City on Sunday.

A Swiss Under-21 global, Fernandes is a product of Sion’s youth academy.

West Ham have recruited Gokhan Tore and Sofiane Feghouli this summer and already boast Dimitri Payet in their starting lineup, so Fernandes isn’t likely to enter the first team immediately. Wilfired Bony appears to be the most likely player through the door, but the club have not given up hope of landing Italian global Simone Zaza from Juventus.

Speaking to the Hammers official website about the move, Fernandes said: ” I am really happy to be here at West Ham United.
