Max Meyer scored the equalizer for Germany in the 59th minute.

It took just 15 seconds for the weight of a nation to be lifted from the shoulders of Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar and his Olympic teammates Wednesday afternoon.

Micale said: “Maybe my intention is to change the style, but we also want to get the best out of our players”.

Lopez tackled Neymar and brought him to the ground, but he was not quick enough to stop the ball rolling cleanly into the net.

For a moment, Neymar s bravery looked like it may have come at a cost as he had to be stretchered off after being winded in the challenge.

“That was the World Cup”.

“It was a disastrous performance, many grave mistakes, and I have to take responsibility”, said Honduran coach Jorge Luis Pinto, a native of Colombia who said he has never had a team give up six goals in his 32-year career.

If they do, then they can develop more players (or monsters) like the Brazil captain. But the referees are falling into his trap.

Two consecutive goals by Jesus Gabriel in the 24th and 34th minutes put the home team 3-0 ahead till the break.

Neymar set up Gabriel Jesus’ second goal with a ideal through ball behind a defender.

Neymar was even whipping the near capacity 78,000 crowd into a frenzy as he uncharacteristically crashed into tackles, with Brazil relieved from the burden of expectation that appeared to weigh heavy on the young squad early in the competition. It eliminated Portugal 4-0 in the quarterfinals.

21 – Germany have scored 21 goals at Rio 2016, averaging about a goal every 22 minutes.

Gremio forward Luan added a fifth ten minutes from time after meeting a sumptuous ball from Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson, before Neymar finished the rout from the penalty spot.

The Barcelona forward guided his country to a 6-0 hammering of Honduras in the Maracana yesterday that has Brazil one step from winning medals to match their iconic shirts.

Brazilian fans had been hoping for a sort of rematch against Germany, whose senior team embarrassed Brazil 7-1 in the semifinals of the World Cup two years ago. “We will beat them 7-1, no 8-1”.

“We knew there was going to be a lot of pressure on this team”, Micale said. But, also: “happy because we are the first”.

As they go for the Olympic gold medal, Brazil have a chance to redeem both of those losses at once.

Having the biggest star in the tournament allied to home advantage and rivals decimated by the fact European clubs didn’t want to release players so close to the start of their seasons, Brazil were expected to cruise to gold.
