Sean White named Auburn starting quarterback
While White has provided the least “wow” factor of the trio, his consistency has been impressive and this fall, the third-year sophomore asserted himself at quarterback and earned the right to be the team’s starter heading into the season.

White was named the starter by coach Gus Malzahn on Thursday as the Tigers work toward their season-opener against Clemson on September 3 in Jordan-Hare Stadium. “He’s in a good spot”. “I’m blessed to be in this position, and I feel responsible to lead this team against Clemson”. “We have confidence in Sean and, more importantly, his teammates have confidence in Sean”.
Asked if he’d relish a chance to sack White, Register said, “Hopefully”. Before injuring a knee at the end of the Arkansas game, White was completing 64 percent of his throws and had games of 255 yards against Kentucky and 254 yards against the Razorbacks. Now, he said, he looks as himself this way: “You’re the older guy”. He has had some disappointments playing, but he has also had some successes playing. He made his college debut in game four last season vs. Mississippi State after Johnson struggled as the starter in the first three games.
White added he has “so much respect for the other two quarterbacks”. Johnson hit 95 of 157 passes with 10 touchdown passes and seven interceptions.
White had 35 rushing yards on 30 recorded attempts as a freshman.

The Tigers had to fight their way to 6 wins in the regular season and then played their best game of the year in the Birmingham Bowl where they destroyed Memphis and kept coach Gus Malzahn’s streak of winning seasons intact.
