Messi wins UEFA goal of the season award

Messi’s goal was one of six scored by Barcelona on the night, as they hammered the Italian side 6-1. Messi, by then at the edge of the Roma box, took it down easily and chipped Wojciech Szczesny to round off an astonishing move.

Here is that Messi goal that sealed it.

Lionel Messi’s delightful chip, Xherdan Shaqiri’s bicycle kick and Saul’s brilliant solo run were all nominated for the UEFA Goal of the season, and the victor has now been announced.

The Barcelona superstar’s Champions League stunner against Roma was voted the best goal on Thursday, with Ricardinho’s futsal goal for Portugal coming in a distant third.

Despite such feats though, the Argentine worldwide is not in the running for UEFA’s best player in Europe award after being pipped by Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann.

The 2016/17 Champions League group-stage draw takes place this evening (18:00 CEST), with the recipient of the Best Player in Europe award also revealed at the event in Monaco.
