Rookie Gary Sanchez kept up his torrid stretch with his seventh home run in the past nine games, and Masahiro Tanaka won his fourth straight start, leading the New York Yankees to a 5-0 victory over the Mariners on Wednesday.

After birthday boy Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius started the first inning off by hitting groundballs to second base, Gary Sanchez walked up to the plate and launched the first pitch thrown his way over the wall in left-center field, over a scoreboard and into the upper deck. “I’m hitting.195, of course you walk him there”.

The intentional passes came after Sanchez homered in the first inning and doubled in the fifth.

The Yankees shut out the Mariners, 5-0, in the rubber game of this series thanks to the incredible and unprecedented – yet somehow predictable – performances by Gary Sanchez and Masahiro Tanaka. “You just don’t see guys doing what he’s doing. I don’t care how old he is”. “We haven’t been shut down like that in quite some time”, Servais said. “I was able to pitch with tolerance and pitch with patience, and I got through six, so I’m happy about doing the least that a starting pitcher could do”.

Tanaka, of course, did more than his share to contribute to the victory.

“The first inning wasn’t good giving up the lead early”, Iwakuma said through an interpreter.

Masahiro Tanaka tosses seven scoreless innings as he extends his record to 11-4. Wednesday marked the first time Tanaka had accomplished that feat in back-to-back starts. “I think it means a lot”.

It began with Sanchez’s first swing in the first inning, a shot to left that gave the Yanks a 1-0 lead.

Tanaka was shaky early, escaping jams in the second and third innings before rolling the rest of the way. Teixeira responded with an RBI single.

“What’s his pace – 100 home runs?” “I thought they would let me hit”.

Girardi said the fan landed on the steps, hitting his side after falling from the top of the dugout. “It shows you Scott Servais has been paying attention to how he’s been swinging and not just in Seattle”.

“One time previous year, I went through a period where I was hot for a couple of weeks”, Sanchez said when asked if he’d ever been on such a torrid streak. Like I said, it is not like he is just getting the bat on the ball.
