Claude Puel’s men will be drawn in a group of four and will play each side home and away with the group winners and runners-up progressing to the knockout stages.

Who’s in the pots?

United missed out on a return to the Champions League after finishing fifth in the Premier League under Louis van Gaal and had to settle for a spot in Europe’s secondary club competition.

No team can play a club from their own association. I have the chance to play against my former team and I think it is a very good competition.

Two qualify from each group. “I spent three fantastic years there”, Herrera told MUTV.

The midfielder says that Bilbao are a “fantastic club with fantastic people working there” so for him it would be the ideal fixture to play sometime down the line.

The draw for the next round will take place four days after the final game.

If the club were to progress out of the group though Herrera says that he “doesn’t mind” travelling as to win the competition “you have to play against the best teams”.
