It means David Moyes will now target goalkeeping cover before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Wednesday, August 31.

Vito Mannone has recently suffered an elbow injury and will be out until November, then the Black Cats might reportedly consider a move to sign the 29-year-old England worldwide. ‘It could be a brace or needed operating on, but we have been told it is quite severe and it will be a minimum of three months.

The ‘keeper suffered the injury in training earlier this week meaning Jordan Pickford will once again deputise when Sunderland face Southampton on Saturday.

“Jordan Pickford now has his chance to show what he can do”.

David Moyes has confirmed Sunderland have made a bid for Sevilla midfielder Vicente Iborra.

“We will definitely need to look for another goalkeeper”, said Moyes.

“We are looking foward to seeing him but it’s a big step up from where he has been”.

Despite all the speculation surrounding Lamine Kone’s future, the central defender could feature at St. Mary’s, alongside new signing Javier Manquillo, who Moyes expects to start at right-back.

Sunderland are one of three teams yet to register a point in the Premier League this season.

“We have only got a few more days so you will not have to wait long to find out what goalkeeper we will get”.

“I thought Southampton played really well at (Manchester) United and thought they were unlucky. The club have a real solidity about them”.
