Nationally, the number of students achieving A* to C grades is down 2.1 per cent to 66.9 per cent.
“We are very proud of all of our students, not just those who achieved the highest grades but also those who overcome significant challenges or exceeded their target grades”.
Ms Davies said the gap between girls and boys had shrunk, particularly in English, with some remarkable individual achievements.
The 16-year-old will continue her studies at Rednock, starting at the school’s sixth form next month.
He said: “I’m really pleased and I’m looking forward to going. I had been hoping for straight As, but I’m happy with the result”.
“Early indications would suggest that we have done well on the new Progress 8 measure of success, which judges a school across a broader range of subjects, and this is a great outcome for the students and the school”.
At Hanley Castle, 70 per cent of students gained five or more GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and maths, more than 30 per cent of all grades were at A* or A and 10 per cent of all grades were at A*.
Charlotte Miller and Lauren Walker each got eight A* and two As, while Oli Emmett-Bird got three A*, four As, one B and two Cs.
He and three other students took on out-of school work and extra lessons during study leave to prepare them for the elite exam.
Ponteland High School headteacher Kieran McGrane said: “These results are incredibly pleasing and truly reflect the hard work and effort on the part of our brilliant students and committed staff”.
“They should all feel very proud and it further reinforces our view that the targeted investment we are putting into Northumberland schools will help pupils make the most of their talents”.
