Chimney Fire continues to burn in California

Hearst Castle, the palatial ocean-view estate popular among tourists, remained closed because of its proximity to the flames.
Simultaneously, staff inside the landmark have been working to protect the extensive art collection, which includes works ranging from 3rd-century Roman marbles to 19th century Tiffany glass vases.

Authorities ordered people in a rural area of northwestern Montana to evacuate before dawn Monday after a wildfire doubled in size in one day. Six other wildfires were burning in the state, including one in San Luis Obispo County that forced the closure of the historic Hearst Castle on Saturday.
The blaze destroyed more than 300 structures, about a third of which were homes, and forced the evacuation of about 82,000 residents.
In California’s San Luis Obispo County, firefighters have been able to carve containment lines around about a third of the 37,100-acres (15,000-hectare) Chimney Fire by Tuesday morning.
Evacuation orders for homes near Upper Grant Creek were lifted Tuesday afternoon but authorities asked non-residents to stay out of the area about 4 miles north of Interstate 90 to keep the roadways clear.
Damin Pashilk, of nearby Clearlake, is charged with 14 counts of arson in connection to the Lower Lake blaze and 11 other fires dating back to July 2015.
A major wildfire is threatening nearly 2,000 structures in central California’s San Luis Obispo County.
Meanwhile, a 58-square-mile fire that destroyed 105 homes in Southern California was nearly entirely contained and all evacuation orders were lifted.
Sunday’s human-caused blaze appeared almost contained but took off in the last several days due to dry conditions and winds of up to 40 miles per hour.
The Spokane Indian Reservation was also severely threatened after the blazes crossed the Spokane River and reached the small community of Wellpinit, whose inhabitants had to evacuate after the electricity was cut off by the fire.
The blaze in mountain areas is 68 percent contained.
The blaze was mostly moving north, but fire crews were preparing for the winds to shift on Tuesday, Spelman said.
The Forest Service spent an unprecedented $1.7 billion fighting fires that burned a record of 10.1 million acres in 2015.
On the northeast side of the city, another fire charred “some houses” as said by officials, and destroyed 250 acres.
Since Monday, the number of resources assigned has increased, with 324 engines, 62 water tenders, 17 helicopters, 107 hand crews, 46 bulldozers and seven air tankers fighting the fire that started August 13 just south of Nacimiento Lake.
