Manquillo played 31 times in Ligue 1 last season, although Marseille, struggling with financial difficulties also passed on the chance to make the deal permanent, opening the door for Sunderland.

The right-footed player has represented his country at youth level up to under-21 and has both UEFA Champions League and Europa League experience with Atletico.

The newcomer could go straight into the squad for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Southampton, where the Black Cats will attempt to register their first point of the campaign after back-to-back defeats by Manchester City and Middlesbrough.

A report in Mundo Deportivo says that the permanent move will be triggered if he plays 25 league games and the fee will be €16 million. I want to give everything inside of me for this club.

“Everything I have seen since I came is a club that is looking forward to doing very good things”.
