New 100 kWh Tesla Model S Boasts 315-Mile EV Range

The Model X is already the quickest SUV ever, Tesla said.

Just as impressive, the estimated driving range for the P100D is 315 miles on a single charge. But it’s not so insane to have an electric auto that can go 315 miles on a charge.

Tesla Motors Inc crowned itself the maker of the world’s fastest production auto on Tuesday, saying a new version of its Model S all-electric sedan can accelerate from 0-97 kilometers per hour in just 2-1/2 seconds.

The new Tesla battery pack is about going long distances, and about driving faster than any vehicle that has been mass produced has gone before.

Tesla announced new versions of its Model S sedan and Model X crossover on Tuesday, with substantially faster acceleration and an improved battery range.

The cars which hold the number one and two spots-the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder, respectively-were limited run, million dollar vehicles. Not only P100D, Tesla has said that the battery pack would also be available for performance version of the Model X sport utility vehicle.

A nice feature: Owners of existing P90D cars can upgrade their batteries for US$ 20,000; the existing battery packs will be removed and recycled. Those who ordered a P90D Ludicrous but haven’t received it yet can upgrade for $10,000. Volkswagen is expected to reveal an all-electric auto in October that could have as much as 372 miles of range, and Porsche is working on a Tesla killer with 300 miles of range that could pop up in showrooms in 2019. It will also have the ludicrous mode.

For those looking to buy now, the Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode starts at $134,500.
