Cristiano Ronaldo was quick to praise his team-mates at club and worldwide level for their part in him being named Best Player in Europe by UEFA on Thursday, and tipped Antoine Griezmann as a future victor.

Given Ronaldo’s team success and Messi’s relative, but painful, failure to win the biggest prizes at club and worldwide levels, expect Ronaldo to claim soccer’s most prestigious individual honor in January 2017.

The award, which Messi won past year, is voted for by journalists from UEFA’s member nations.

In May, he took home the Champions League crown with Real Madrid before winning Euro 2016 with Portugal this summer.

Bale and Ronaldo are competing with Frenchman Antoine Griezmann for the UEFA award of best player in Europe, reports Efe. She beat France’s Amandine Henry and Germany’s Dzsenifer Marozsan, after winning the Women’s Champions League and a French league and cup double with Lyon.

Portuguese Legend Cristiano Ronaldo has won his second UEFA Best Player in Europe Award after seeing off competition from Real Madrid Teammate Gareth Bale and Atletico’s Antoine Griezman.

Gareth Bale is targeting a Cardiff homecoming in this season’s Champions League after Real Madrid learned the initial opponents for the defence of their European crown. It came out just after the Champions League draw concluded.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the greatest soccer-playing cyborg ever made/animated, had a year to remember.

The award has previously gone to Lionel Messi (twice), Andres Iniesta, Franck Ribery and Ronaldo.

Depending on Zidane’s tactical approach, the team is missing a third forward or a fourth midfielder to fill in for Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema’s absences.

“The same goes both collectively and individually, because I was the top scorer in the Champions League and had a good European Championship, and we were able to win the two most important trophies”.

“I will be not fair if I’m not going to mention these two incredible players”.
