Women’s Equality Day 2016: Wallpaper, Quotes And Everything You Need to Know

It’s the anniversary of the day in 1920 that the Constitution was changed to give women the right to vote. Why August 26th in particular? It runs from 4:30 until 6 p.m.at the Refuge in Appleton.

As she celebrated women’s suffrage, Kaishia Sloan grabbed a pen and registered to vote.

On Sept. 3, the League of Women Voters and a number of other local organizations are hosting a “Celebrate the Vote” Festival in commemoration of the protest in St. Louis.

The League encourages active participation by citizens.

Kathleen Farrell, president of the League of Women Voters of Metro St. Louis, and Rebecca Now, historian and executive director of the Webster Groves/Shrewsbury area Chamber of Commerce, joined the program to discuss the significance of the event.

It is a hard question to answer but I think part of it lies in the invisibility of women in our history even after they were finally given voting rights. I mean, that’s pretty much every day on social media, but today there’s bound to be even more dogs. They understand the importance of public art and preserving this history, especially since there is a dearth of statuary featuring women. But according to a study from Trend Research, 63 percent of women have never had a formal mentor and only 56 percent of companies have formal mentoring programs.

Bystrom started with a few key women’s suffrage activists, who included Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony and Carrie Chapman Catt. In honor of the occasion, we’re shining a spotlight on five women in LA who make the city better by killing the game in what used to be considered male-dominated fields. “She was president of the association twice, first in 1905 and a second time from 1915 through the ratification of the amendment in 1920”. The bill calling for a constitutional amendment was filed every year after that until it was finally approved by the Congress in 1972 and sent to the states for ratification.

We may take it for granted now that a woman can be the secretary of state, the head of General Motors, or even president of the United States, but it wasn’t so long ago when it was nearly inconceivable for a woman to achieve any of these accomplishments. Today, we are fighting to elect a woman as president of the United States. For women, the United States was founded on a promise of equality that its politicians did not deliver. Yet women still don’t have even a third (not to mention half) of the seats in the House of Representatives or the Senate, nor in any state legislature in the nation.

Ryan is making a bit of history herself.

Bystrom said that these women and many others play a key role in future women in politics.

“Definitely having the first woman nominated for a major political party is definitely a big milestone that was reached this year”, Bystrom said. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a notable suffragist of the day, wrote in a newspaper called The Revolution, “American women of wealth, education, virtue and refinement, if you do not wish the lower orders of Chinese, Africans, Germans and Irish, with their low ideas of womanhood to make laws for you and your daughters … demand that women too shall be represented in government”.
