Jazz trade Pleiss to 76ers for Marshall, waive Marshall

In a deal constructed around salary-cap maneuvering, the Philadelphia 76ers sent guard Kendall Marshall to the Utah Jazz for center Tibor Pleiss, two second-round picks and cash. Marshall was clearly not in the team’s future plans with so many free agent signings in the back court. However, Marshall won’t remain with the Jazz.

Marshall played 30 games for the Sixers last season, starting six.

Marshall averaged 3.7 points and 2.4 assists for the Sixers last season.

Marshall (6-4, 200) is a four-year National Basketball Association veteran from North Carolina, who has appeared in 160 career games (57 starts) over four seasons with Phoenix, the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee and Philadelphia.

Pleiss is German and was drafted by the Nets in the second in 2010.

His rights were then traded to the Jazz in 2015.

Woj reports the Jazz plan on waiving Marshall, whose just over $2 million salary for 2016-17 is non-guaranteed until September 2.

In exchange for helping Utah save some money, the Sixers will get a couple more draft picks and a look at a 7-foot-2 center who was trying to extend his range to the 3-point line at summer league. Pleiss has $3 million guaranteed for 2016-17.
