Mourinho aims dig at Bayern over Schweinsteiger

Schweinsteiger said earlier this week he will not sign for another European club and will be ready if United need him.

And Mourinho, who says it will be “very difficult” for the 32-year-old to play if he stays at Old Trafford, has taken aim at the Bundesliga champions for the comments. I’m not saying it’s impossible. We have a decision made about [Paul] Pogba, [Ander] Herrera, [Morgan] Schneiderlin, [Marouane] Fellaini, Michael Carrick. we have five players for two positions. It’s very hard that an opportunity will arrive.

“I thought after I read some quotes from people at Bayern Munich that they would run to Manchester to bring him back, but no, it did not happen”, Mourinho said. “I’m quite surprised Karl-Heinze Rummennigge is not here to take him back”.

Schweinsteiger has two years left on his United contract, and in terms of the prospect of him staying on at United despite not playing, Mourinho said: “I can not answer for him”. It is his life and career he has right to make that decision and that is not a problem for us.

Jose Fonte has chose to extend his stay with the Saints and has signed a new contract to nearly double his current wages at the St Mary’s, rejecting advances from Manchester United over a transfer.

“Football is about decisions”. I’ve done that all my career, not just me, everyone does it. Some players react in a different way and have other kind of decisions.

“Bastian is not speaking a lot, apart from the one statement he has made. There are no problems at all”.

The former Chelsea boss also confirmed that United were not planning on bringing in more players in the current transfer window.

“For Jose it was important for us, for me, to keep him in the squad because he is a good personality, a good professional and has good leadership qualities. I am more than happy with the squad I have”, he said.

“The signings we’ve made this season have been really good signings”, he continued.

Saturday’s hosts Hull are now under the stewardship of Mike Phelan, who is in caretaker charge, but the ex-Red is in the frame to get the job permanently after guiding the Tigers to successive victories against Leicester City and Swansea City in the league and Exeter City in the EFL Cup.
