Among the highest performing students were Megan Turner, Ami Dovie and Amy Barker, who between them gained a total of 28 A and A* grades.
Jarrow School pupils, from left, Niamh Chapman, Adrienne Kearvell and Beth Lawson, are all off to Newcastle College Sixth Form after collecting their GCSE results.. Special mentions should go to Isabel Leach with 12 A* grades, and Emma Carrington, Georgia Edge, Phoebe Jackson, Jemima Nambo, and Lauren Singer who were amongst a group who achieved 11 A* grades.
Joseph Molander, who got 10 A*s and an A, said: “It’s something you hear so often but it really is satisfying to have the hard work pay off”.
Ketty, who earned nine A* grades and an A, and who spent her lunch times mentoring year nine pupils in maths, said: “I know when I’m older I want to do something with Maths and Physics”.
Headteacher David Croston said: “The GCSE results day is always a very special occasion”.
Nearly 60 per cent of all grades awarded were A*s, while 88 per cent of grades were A*s or As, exceeding the school’s previous record. Nearly 50 per cent of students gained one or more A* and A grades and more than two thirds of students achieved the highest grades across all subjects.
Headmaster Ian Davies said: “My honest congratulations to all of our students achieving these exceptional results”.
Nationally GCSE results have seen a record drop, with girls continuing to outperform boys, official figures show.
Overall, 47 per cent of students passed both English and maths which sees the school maintain its steady increase from past year, with particular emphasis on the English progress that demonstrates three quarters of students gained the expected level. Pupils at Salvatorian College are making excellent academic progress.
