Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick as Bayern Munich got their quest for a fifth consecutive Bundesliga title off to a ideal start at the Allianz Arena.

The opening game of the German football league season was a one-sided affair from the start and turned into a rout on a warm evening in the Allianz Arena as Bayern made it 12 wins in a row over a harmless Bremen side.

The dominance continued after the interval when Lewandowski stretched to tap in a Thomas Muller cross, before Philipp Lahm drove in the fourth via the post after more precise passing.

Bayern, led by new coach Carlo Ancelotti for the first time in the league, scored twice in the opening 13 minutes as they delivered a statement of intent to Borussia Dortmund and the other pretenders to their domestic crown.

Bayern’s win came with Germany defenders Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber, plus Dutch winger Arjen Robben all recovering from injury.

New signing Mats Hummels enjoyed a peaceful night at the back against Bremen’s toothless attack, while 19-year-old Renato Sanches, a 35 million Euro acquisition from Benfica, remained on the bench.

Alonso’s volley from just outside the area found the top right-hand corner and flew past Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald.

Muller’s long-range shot slammed off the post, then Lewandowski hit the crossbar and had a shot saved before the break.

Lahm grabbed Bayern’s second when he converted Mueller’s final pass before Ribery blasted home their fifth with the Frenchman unmarked in the area.

Muller was given far too much space to pick out Ribery for a powerful finish and Lewandowski rolled in a penalty for his second hat-trick in two games – he claimed the matchball in the cup thrashing of minnows Carl Zeiss Jena seven days ago – after substitute Rafinha was fouled.

Shortly after the fifth, Bayern won a penalty when Ribery was brought down in the box, and Lewandowski slotted the spot-kick to complete his hat-trick and Werder’s humiliation.
