Lewis flirts with 59, settles for 62 in Denmark

This placed Jeev in fifth place when reports last came in, with Joakim Lagergren of Sweden and Belgian Thomas Pieters leading with 9-under 62 after completing their first rounds in Farso, Denmark.

The Welshman, runner-up in 2014, bogeyed the 13th before finishing the second round with a birdie and four pars.

Dredge, who has gone nearly 10 years without a win, was just one off the lead overnight following his superb 63, and his love of the Himmerland Resort continued as he defied blustery conditions to fire a five-under 66 which lifted him to 13 under par.

Dredge blotted his card at the 13th, but a sublime up and down at the driveable 14th got the shot back although he was unable to emulate his first-round streak of five consecutive birdies as he parred in.

Ryder Cup hopeful Thomas Pieters is now in a two-way tie for second, alongside South African Richard Sterne, after struggling to a level-par round of 70.

The trio sit a shot clear of Wales’ Bradley Dredge, himself two ahead of a three-man chasing pack featuring David Lipsky, Jake Roos and Scott Jamieson, who was the last man to hit 60 on the European Tour and made the third albatross of the year at hole four.

The Abingdon golfer followed his four over-par first round of 75 – which included a nine at one hole – by faring even worse in his second.

Andy Sullivan’s weekend ended miserably as he dropped three shots on the 18th to drop below the cut line.

Fellow Welshman Jamie Donaldson is two under par after a triple-bogey finish and has dropped down to tied 31st.
