Trump’s speech comes at a time when he’s trying to restart his campaign that had gone badly off the rails after his acceptance of the Republican Party’s nomination at their convention in Cleveland. Immigrant advocates argued he would gain no ground with Hispanics by giving lip-service to limited pro-immigrant measures while still insisting on the need for a border wall.
Her speech focused on the so-called alt-right movement, which is often associated with efforts on the far right to preserve “white identity”, oppose multiculturalism and defend “Western values”.
“He fully recognizes that he’s probably not going to win the majority, anywhere near the majority of African-American votes, because of tradition”.
To qualify to remain in the United States, Trump said, illegal immigrants would have to pay back taxes. The candidate, whom Fortune magazine reported has retweeted the Twitter postings from known white-supremacist accounts some 75 times, has yet to condemn them.
Does Trump have the faintest clue what black America is really like? Berg said he’s an outlier: an undecided black Republican.
Donald Trump distorted the facts about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails when he said in Texas that “the Federal Bureau of Investigation found thousands [of emails] she never turned over, and now just recently found another 15,000 more”. Trump’s down in the polls by a significant margin to Hillary Clinton in part due to his abysmal numbers with Hispanic voters as well as suburban white voters who are less comfortable with hardline calls for mass deportation than Trump’s blue collar rural base. He said the 600,000 Latino-owned businesses in Florida would benefit under his economic plan, but he offered few specifics.
Republican Donald Trump is courting minority voters as rival Hillary Clinton prepares to deliver a speech that will accuse his campaign of courting hate.
Obama won 93 percent of black voters in 2012 and 95 percent in 2008, according to exit polls. Trump hasn’t been shy about criticizing fellow Republicans – even those up for re-election.
Trump has confronted his steep path in the last week, asking minorities, “Give Trump a chance!” As a leader you’ve got to be diplomatic, You’ve got to say the right thing. “It’s the oldest play in the Democratic playbook: say ‘You’re racist, you’re racist, you’re racist.’ It’s a exhausted, disgusting argument”. I’m very strong on illegal immigration. (While most alt-rightists are completely serious about their politics, with the channer component it isn’t always clear if someone believes what he’s spouting or is trolling you.) Since then the alt-right’s boundaries have grown only blurrier.
On a recording of the event released by a Democratic group, Trump says he’s been “hearing a lot about that” and isn’t sure what Perry will do.
First, by appearing to reach out to people who don’t look like him, Trump’s team hopes he can broaden his appeal, especially with voting blocs with whom he is having particular difficulty (read=white women and millennials). “And [he] will compete to earn the trust and vote of African-Americans”.
Certainly, each Trump pronouncement drew roaring approval from his rally audiences.
Johnson’s ballot access had been in question after party activists submitted paperwork and voter signatures earlier this month on behalf of a different candidate. He emphasizes (and exaggerates) statistics and descriptions of inner city life to enhance his point: “You’re living in poverty”. “We want people – we have some great people in this country”.
In Philadelphia, Bennett said, “It’s insane to think that he would have the audacity to ask us what we have to lose”.
However, previous comments he’s made, have some people questioning his intentions.
Any move by Trump towards legalization would risk alienating his more hardline supporters.
Trump’s new position seemed to resemble in some respects the failed 2007 reform push by former Republican President George W. Bush. “It’ll keep all the bad guys out”, he could say. Randall Darnell blasts an economy that traps laborers, black and white, in “legalized slavery”.
