The directive will be in effect until the menace of Zika virus is reduced or eliminated, according to the FDA.

“Our recommendations had considered the transmission from a person who seems otherwise healthy, because four out of five people who are infected with Zika won’t develop symptoms”. The cases in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are a mix of travel-related cases and locally acquired infections via mosquitoes or sex.

New development: A Maryland man, who has not been identified, went to the Dominican Republic, where there is a Zika outbreak.

A Pacific Northwest tribe is traveling almost 5,000 miles across Canada and the United States with a 22-foot-tall totem pole on a flatbed truck in a symbolic journey meant to galvanize opposition to fossil fuel.

“As representatives of the almost one million residents of Pinellas County, we want to ensure that our county has every tool at its disposal to combat a potential spread of the virus”, the letter sent by State Rep. Chris Sprowls’ office reads.

The Food and Drug Administration has recommended screening the entire USA blood supply for the Zika virus, it announced today, noting that screening donated blood is already underway in Florida and Puerto Rico.

CHICAGO-New Zika research released on Friday, Aug. 26, has found that the virus may spread sexually from a man to a woman even if the man had no symptoms of Zika infection.

Doctors believe Zika spread from someone with no symptoms is extremely rare.

The Washoe County Health District announced the case Friday, although they didn’t say where the woman traveled.

Of the cases in Puerto Rico, 34 patients had evidence of a flavivirus infection, such as Zika, dengue or Chikungunya, and 10 had confirmed Zika virus infections.

“The vagina is a site where the virus can replicate and possibly transmit to partners”. “Be sure to wear insect repellent and appropriate clothing, and use CDC guidance on safe sex when you return”.

The Zika (ZEE’-ka) virus was first discovered in monkey in Uganda in 1947 – its name comes from the Zika forest where it was first discovered.

Last March, Red Cross implemented FDA’s recommendation to reduce the risk of transfusion-transmission of Zika virus by adding a question to the Red Cross donor health history concerning travel to or residence in areas with local Zika virus transmission.

They are most active during mid-morning and then again between late afternoon and nightfall.

“Families and soon-to-be mothers in Pinellas County have enough to worry about, without having to fear this virus”, Sprolws said.

Since the virus can live in the womb lining, there is a chance the baby can become infected during birth.

No vaccine to prevent Zika now exists.

Individuals can protect themselves from mosquito bites by using insect repellents.

The researchers, however, said that they have not determined whether the Zika virus replicated in the vagina after women were exposed through sexual intercourse.
