‘Vampyr’ Gameplay Video Features 14 Minutes Of New Footage

Vampyr, the upcoming action-RPG from Dontnod (Life is Strange), was given a 15-minute gameplay video today. The player takes control of Jonathan E. Reid, a doctor-turned-vampire who must choose who to kill in order to survive.

The video shows some of the main features of this title, in which the narrative is entirely tied with the gameplay.

While you can certainly tell it’s early days judging by some of the character lip-synching and wonky combat, the spooky gothic environments are looking particularly impressive. Without any spoilers, our presentation begins a little after the beginning of the game. Now aware of being a vampire, our protagonist Dr Jonathan Reid must come to terms with what he has become, meeting some of the characters you will interact with along your journey – some of whom are aware of what you are, and also share the same affliction. We got to see the game in action earlier this year, but even then, it was very much a behind closed doors affair, and so it’s only now, around 18 months after it was first announced, that Dontnod are really showing the game publicly for the first time.

As Reid investigates the people of London, he is able to see and determine the quality of blood coursing through their bodies. Hard choices will need to be made as to who deserves to die to feed your thirst for blood, all of which will directly affect the game world.

Taking lives in London is not easy.

Also, when that goes wrong you can use your dark sorcery to lead NPCs down dodgy alleys and relieve them of their haemoglobin, delicious.
