After mayor Patsy Capshaw Skipper was defeated by Jo Ann Bennett Grimsley this week, she reportedly posted the comment “I lost”.

Midland City Mayor Patsy Capshaw Skipper said she didn’t write the slur shown on her Facebook page and that her account was hacked. When asked about the results of the election, the reply on Skipper’s Facebook account included the racially charged comment.

The incriminating post is not visible to those who are not Facebook friends with Skipper, according to the Dothan Eagle.

“I think I’ve been hacked”, Skipper said.

She added that she recently underwent heart surgery and her Facebook account “has been the least of my worries”.

Grimsley has apparently taken the high road and has not responded to the racist Facebook jab. In 2012, Skipper’s husband declined to re-appoint Grimsley to be the town’s assistant city clerk, water clerk and court magistrate positions when he took office.

Former Midland mayor, Virgil Skipper, retired in February due to health reasons.

“It’s ridiculous now, ridiculous, and this is who is representing me?” said Midland City Councilman George Williams. Get real. She should have resigned yesterday.

“It’s the people. The people have spoken and the town most definitely needed a change”, said Williams.

Jo Ann Bennett Grimsley will be Midland City’s first African-American mayor. “I really don’t understand her thought process, how you could say something like that in 2016”.

For now, Patsy Skipper is still the interim mayor.

The alleged Facebook post has since been removed. She said she was on her way to a meeting at the time.
