“The truth is, she really is that person who would like me any way”, the actor told Elle. “You were right, nothing’s really happening”.

One of the things that I got nervous about was play fighting with him, because he’s a very good actor, but I, for some reason, would always end up injured when we did any play fighting.

“I don’t think I’ve ever signed onto anything as quickly as I did this one”, he says, “because I come from a really loving, well-connected family. I would scare my children”, the star of Amazon’s new Jack Ryan series joked. “This movie was the closest I’ve had to The Office experience”.

And just like his date nights with Blunt – whom Krasinski admits he’s jealous of, since she will be playing the titular character in 2018’s Mary Poppins Returns and therefore will be “like a superhero” to Hazel and Violet – he likes to keep things simple and genuine. To me, going as an actor and trying to figure out what you want to do with a role isn’t much different than inviting all these people [in the cast] down to Jackson, Miss., for six weeks and saying: “Oh my God, they’re here only because of you. And to be honest, had she said no, I don’t know that I would have directed it”. “We just go to dinner and talk and have no baby talk”. Because the first three times I thought, There’s no way he is serious.

“It sounds insane. But in this one, it was actually very easy and bizarrely helpful to be acting in the scenes because I think there’s a real disconnect when you call cut and you have to review the tape and then come and give your actors notes”. But for me, I think it was so important to make this movie because these movies aren’t being told as much anymore. So I watched, you know, 50 to 60 people leave the office. He said Emily is the one who struggles the most. “Like we were a real family that someone was capturing”. So there were all these scenes where he would throw snowballs at me and it actually hurt, or he’d go to push me and he’d push me too hard, and I’d actually get hurt. I tried not to cut a lot; because we were shooting on digital, you have that luxury of shooting long takes. To see more, visit Fresh Air.
