Shehu spoke on the issue the same day parents of the over 200 abducted schoolgirls joined the #BringBackOurGirls coalition in Abuja to protest the failure of the Federal Government to rescue the girls.
“As was the case on Monday, security operatives also barred the protesters from accessing the villa, stopping them short at the Bullet Junction near the Head of Service building”.
The group stated this in an address jointly signed by its leaders, Oby Ezekwesili and Aisha Yesufu, which was read during its protest march on the Presidential Villa. The government has not given up on the missing girls.
” This multi-stakeholders platform should act as a transparent mechanism for feedback on evidence of Mr. President’s sustained action towards bringing back our #Chibokgirls”.
“For 846 days, our Chibok girls have been captured and you say you don’t have credible intelligence as president of Nigeria?” she queried. Are we not Nigerians? “Incredible intelligence will not fall from the sky”, Ezekwesili said according to Leadership. “The Time to Decide and Act is Now”, the statement read.
The group noted the attack on Shawa Village in the Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State and acknowledged the courage and gallantry of the soldiers in the frontlines, including the Multinational Joint Task Force and the Civilian JTF, and urged them to remain resilient in the face of attacks.
Reacting to the critics, Garba said the government would continue in its effort to rescue the girls, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari’s heart was with the girls and their parents.
Dr Ezekwesili also criticized Buhari for saying that the government doesn’t have any credible intelligence on the girls’ whereabouts. He understands their feelings.
In reaction to the released video, the Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, assured the parents of the girls that the government would continue to make efforts to rescue the girls abducted over two years ago. Efforts to find them will continue.
“Those Boko Haram terrorists commanders confirmed dead include Abubakar Mubi, Malam Nuhu and Malam Hamman, amongst others, while their leader, the so-called “Abubakar Shekau”, is believed to be fatally wounded on his shoulders”.
“So far, the country’s gallant and re-energised military has taken back more than 20,000 citizens held hostage by the terrorists”.
