Al Gore Thinking About Running for President

Whether it’s the environment, the overwhelming importance of the Internet, opposing the Iraq War, or reminding everyone that he was the alternative to both Bush and the Clintons, Gore has a lot of goodwill at his back. There have been other potential candidates, such as Minnesota Sen. Now, Gore, who has been absent from the public eye, is reportedly taking it into consideration. At this point, Warren would probably just split the votes available to Bernie Sanders.

“They’re figuring out if there’s a path financially and politically”, the Democrat said.

But that only illustrates another aspect of the Democrats’ dilemma: Hillary is still pretty strong despite her obvious liabilities and is likely to remain so absent the absolute worst case scenario concerning her emails.

“This is people talking to people, some of whom may or may not have talked to him“, said one Gore adviser. Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill told CNN Tuesday about Sanders. NBC’s Kristin Welker reports for TODAY. Current Vice President Joe Biden is also rumored to be eyeing a presidential run, but unlike the Gore rumors, sources close to Biden have not discounted those rumors. Since then, Gore has devoted himself to environmental causes and other business ventures.

The first filing deadlines for key primaries such as New Hamshire are in November, meaning that Biden will have to organize a team, secure funding and lay out his platform in the next three months. Politico’s report throws that cold water: “There’s no truth to it. He’s laser-focused on solving the climate crisis”, Gore’s rep tells the site. On Wednesday night, Biden called one of his most outspoken political supporters and wrestled with the question of whether he should run. But if Democrats think Al “Soft Chakra” Gore is their white knight, feel free to write off Democrats when they adopt him.
