The central IN community of Kokomo was left reeling Wednesday afternoon after multiple tornadoes cut paths of destruction through town, smashing cars, demolishing houses and downing power lines.

Eight Indiana counties confirmed tornado reports, with 15 homes damaged in Howard County and 30 homes damaged in Montgomery County.
Brandon Mobley was working on the roof of a restaurant adjacent to Starbucks when one of the tornadoes struck Wednesday afternoon.

Bursten said those injured included a 5-month-old child who suffered a laceration in Montgomery County. One injury was reported in the state.
About 220 people stayed overnight in a temporary shelter in Kokomo, Mayor Greg Goodnight said Thursday. Furthermore, the Colts are providing financial support for the American Red Cross and the United Way of Howard County, while the proceeds of the 50/50 raffle from Saturday’s preseason game will be donated to the Red Cross and other relief organizations to help.
“It’s insane. It’s a madhouse”, said Mitchell Carlson, a maintenance technician at the Park Place Apartments in Kokomo.
Local officials say the Park Place Apartments has been ordered vacated after most of the 16-building complex was damaged or destroyed.
“The intensity of the tornado we got in Kokomo is something you might see within our service area once every couple of years”, he says.
“I’m very grateful just remember if you think it’s bad all you have to do is look around you somebody got it a lot worst that could have been us”, he said.
The Indiana State Police said the injuries occurred in Kokomo and rural Howard Country.
Amy Tygart, who is a volunteer, said its a miracle everyone made it out alive.
