Police constable shot dead by terrorists in South Kashmir

Terrorists on Saturday killed a policeman in Pulwama district in South Kashmir.

According to reports, selection grade constable Irshad Ahmad Ganai had gone out for his duties in Koil village when he was shot from close range.

A police official said that though there was one death in Pulwama’s Rajpora, the situation across Valley remained well compared to previous Fridays. Additional Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Station House Officer of Pulwama and a Commanding Officer of CRPF were among the injured in the attack.

At least 70 people, including two cops, have been killed and several thousand others injured in the clashes that erupted after Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani was shot dead in an encounter by security forces on July 8.

The meeting comes close on the heels of a clear message from the Centre to the chief minister to control the growing unrest in the state. Did the children go to army camps to buy toffees (candy)?

The violent protests also broke out at Pattan and Palhallan areas of Baramulla district after Friday prayers during which police used teargas and pellets against the protesters.

She had said “Today 95 per cent who have been killed are youngsters belonging to poor families”. “The security forces have exercised maximum restraint and not retaliated to avoid civilian casualties”, the statement concluded.

Shops and business establishments remained closed while public and private transport remained off the roads due to the strike.

Geelani, chairman of hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference, was also taken into custody as he tried to defy the house arrest orders, a police official said.
