“So, he works for you guys; does he still get any money from the Trump people at the same time?” asked Colbert knowing full well the answer as all of us in this industry do. “Have you once since you left that campaign, one time – I’m a political analyst, I get on you, and I attack Hillary Clinton when I think it’s necessary – have you said one thing negative about Donald Trump?”. “I guess that’s one way to look at it”.
Thanks to the latest FEC filings, we now know for certain that CNN commentator Corey Lewandowski is being actively paid by the Trump campaign, despite being let go several months ago.
Cooper looked a little peeved about it but admitted, “Pretty much”.
Cooper explained CNN has people from both campaigns appear regularly on its air to talk about the presidential race, but stopped short of detailing who is getting paid what, and by whom. I’m a present – Christmas morning is Election Day.

Cooper played coy on the issue of the severance pay, although CNN programming now identifies the situation at the start of every Lewandowski segment. Certainly seems supportive of his efforts. Colbert noted that Cooper just wrapped a long sit-down with Trump’s new campaign manager Kellyanne Conway and previously interviewed Trump’s second campaign chief Paul Manafort. “I mean, he’s doing it to overwhelmingly white audiences, is he actually going to go to an African-American church? The campaign today was saying that may happen”.
