In addition to explicit photos, hackers posted images of Jones’s drivers license and passport on her website, along with a racist video tribute to the dead gorilla Harambe.
In a short statement on Thursday, a spokesperson for the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said that the Homeland Security investigations unit in NY “has an open investigation into this matter”.
ICE Public Affairs Officer Rachael Yong Yow said the agency does not release information related to active investigations.
An FBI spokeswoman said the agency is not involved with the investigation at the moment. Other celebrities, including Ghostbusters director Paul Feig, Katy Perry and Questlove came to her defense on Wednesday.
“I’m not stupid to not know racism exists”, Jones wrote on Twitter.
Torontonians are invited to make their way to the city’s east end Saturday at 2 p.m.to show some love for American comedian Leslie Jones.
Now, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, is looking into the matter.

Earlier, Jones was the victim of racist online trolling and some of the comments were so nasty that a few of the trollers were even banned by Twitter. She eventually returned, and her tweets about the Olympics earned her a job covering them in Rio for NBC.
