Klopp will make his own call on Moreno

Goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray secured Burnley’s first win of the season and propelled them above Liverpool in the Premier League table after just two games.

Klopp has made several signings this summer, including Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum and Ragnar Klavan, but he has so far failed to bring in a new left-back despite serious questions over Alberto Moreno’s form, with James Milner used in the position at Burnley.

“In the Premier League world, the numbers that get bandied around for us seem really small”, said Dyche.

Addressing reporters, he said: “I know you would all buy a left-back, but a midfielder?”

“In my opinion, we could have avoided this situation in five or six times before and then it came to the situation where Alberto could have done better – that’s right”.

He said: “We could analyse this pretty quickly, and say “we lost 2-0 here and that is not allowed” but that is not the way I like to do it”. I thought we could have done better.

Ahead of his side’s trip to Burnley on Saturday, Klopp was asked for his take on Moreno and he responded by defending the left-back. “We didn’t start well in the game”.

“If someone doesn’t perform too well we talk about it in a press conference?”

“I think that’s usually a pre-season of work, you get more detail and depth to it and get the players to your liking”. But it’s only the start of the season and I can see a lot of good things.

“We’re not kids, we know what to expect from these games, we know they’re high quality players and the tactical details change, but within that you have to have a belief in what you do, and there’s no lack of that here”.

“The whole game is explained by the two goals”, he added. We already expected a tough challenge in breaking down a side with a very good defence at home, but after scoring they locked up tighter. “That’s how it is and we have to accept it”. It is not a defending problem it is an offensive problem. If you had told me past year that we would play at Burnley like this – it wasn’t ideal, but to play like this – I would be really surprised.

“The forward drops in as well and they try to play rotational and pop the ball around and your players have to see through that and realise that they weren’t opening us up and that’s an important factor. It’s not an off day, just an experience that we didn’t want”.
