Dwyane Wade’s 32-year-old cousin, Nykea Aldridge, was fatally shot on Chicago’s South Side while pushing her child in a stroller on Friday afternoon, his family and local police tell NBC Chicago.

Initial reports indicate the woman was registering her child or children at Dulles Elementary School, which is nearby, at the time of the shooting.
A relative took custody of the woman’s child.
Police said the victim was not the intended target. She is the cousin of National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade, who recently joined the Chicago Bulls.
Aldridge is the daughter of Wade’s mother’s sister.

“She wasn’t bothering anybody, just going to register her kids in school-and bullets that fly around have no name made a decision to find its way to her head”, said pastor Jolinda Wade, Dwyane’s mother.
One person is being questioned by police.

Wade did not speak directly to gun violence during his appearance for The Undefeated, but described his encounters with police while growing up in a South Side Chicago house headed by a drug-dealing mother, Jolinda Wade, who appeared in the show’s first segment. “Enough. Enough is enough”, he said.
