Ilford Grammar School pupils have been finding out just how much five years of hard work in secondary school have paid off and picking up their GCSE results today.

Headteacher Rod Francis said this year’s results marked the most successful year in the school’s history.
“We are pleased that we have seen significantly more A* and A grades than before, and the number of students achieving five A*-C grades has also increased on past year”.
“Two of our boys deserve a special mention – Thomas Desborough who achieved nine A grades and one A* and Haroon Hamid who achieved six A grades and one A* grade”.
Principal of the Brigg school Nicola Williams said 72 percent of students achieved five A* to Cs, including maths and English, up 9 percent on last year’s “excellent” results.
Debbie Barnes, Director of Children’s Services, added: “We have yet to see how the final figures will pan out, but the picture is showing that our students have done incredibly well to maintain improvements and standards”.
“We are very pleased with the GCSE results and more importantly the achievement of all of our pupils”.
“They attended so many extra lessons after school and at weekends to ensure the very best results possible”.
The 16-year-old said: “It is such a relief to know what we’ve got and I’m now going to go to sixth form at Beechen Cliff”.
Libby, who has represented Cleveland in the prestigious English Schools competition, achieved seven A* grades and three As.

As always staff have worked extremely hard and, with the support of parents and carers, students have earned grades that will move them smoothly forward into the next stage of their education.
