Jose Mourinho: ‘Very difficult’ to see Schweinsteiger play for United this season

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has said that he is happy with the squad and the transfers he’s made, and expects no signings ahead of transfer deadline day.

“I think that more points will be needed to win the competition because numerous top teams underperformed previous year, which was fantastic for the beauty of the competition”, Mourinho told his pre-match media conference at Carrington on Friday afternoon.

The 32-year-old Schweinsteiger, who announced his retirement from worldwide football last month, is yet to make a first team appearance this season and has been training with the club’s reserves.

“It is very hard to happen”.

Amid increasing speculation surrounding his possible exit, Mourinho hammered the final nail in the coffin saying SchweinsteigerÆs playing chances are less while pointing out his arsenal of midfielders comprising Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick, Sport24 reported. “It’s very hard that an opportunity will arrive”.

Schweinsteiger has two years left on his United contract, and in terms of the prospect of him staying despite not playing, Mourinho said: “I can not answer for him”.

“I thought, when I read some quotes from people at Bayern Munich, they would run to Manchester to bring him back, but no, that didn’t happen. It is a big match to play in Istanbul as it is in Rotterdam, so it is a good draw for our squad”. It’s his life, his career. He has a contract with Man United and a right to make that decision and stay.

‘Football is made of decisions. I’m quite surprised Karl-Heinze is not here to take him back. Some players react in different ways and have different kinds of decisions. To be honest, Bastian is not speaking a lot.

The former United assistant manager Mike Phelan is the man in charge, and Mourinho feels he deserves to be given the job full-time.

Talking to the press Jose Mourinho said: “He (Schweinsteiger) has spoken to me, ‘ said Mourinho”.

‘I have 23 players in the squad and in principle nobody is leaving because I don’t want anybody to leave and nobody is coming – 23 players is more than enough.

“More than that, there are good things in the team – things maybe more hard for you or fans to look at, but things I know we are working on and are trying to change and improve. I am happy not just with the results but also the way we play”.
