Celebrities Helping to Clear the Shelters and Find Animals New Homes

Cats will be available for $10 and dogs for $50.

Kaitlyn and her family haven’t second guessed their decision to give Blue a new home. Founded in 1874, it is one of the nation’s oldest humane organizations and not affiliated with any other SPCA or Humane Society. Each animal will be spayed/neutered, current on all vaccinations, micro-chipped and have 24-hour PetWatch insurance. Therese Hoofnagle, Little Elm Animal Services Supervisor, said this will be the shelter’s first year to participate, and they are excited to be involved.

“Clear the Shelter Day is part of a national effort to find homes for animals not just in public shelters but private shelters as well”, Christenbury said.

VCA Animal Hospital, a sponsor of the event, will provide a limited health guarantee and a gift bag with each pet adopted. “Anything we can do to promote adoption rather than purchasing animals, we want to be on board for”.

“The summer is a great time to adopt”, he says. That number is expected to balloon as more animals are brought in and made ready for adoption. Spudster, a bull terrier mix, needed surgery to correct major breathing problems he had when he came to the shelter.

More than 650 animals at the San Diego Humane Society are now up for adoption, and staffers hope Saturday’s Clear the Shelters event will connect them to a loving home. Some of the agencies require may require a copy of the landlord’s pet policy if you’re renting a home or apartment.

The shelter has adult cats – some have been waiting for more than two years – and many kittens.

Last year, around 38 shelters participated in the event, generating an estimated 2,200 adopted animals. By participating in Pet Adoption: Montclair, local businesses shine a light on an animal who may never be noticed.
