Dwyane Wade’s cousin fatally shot pushing baby in stroller

Basketball star Dwyane Wade’s cousin Nykea Aldridge was fatally shot while pushing a baby stroller down a South Side Chicago street Friday, raising questions about the state of gun laws in the country.

Family says Nykea was registering her child or children at Dulles Elementary School, which is nearby, at the time of the shooting. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON.

Chicago police spokeswoman Michelle Tannehill said two suspects were in custody, and that Aldridge was not the intended target.

Aldridge was hit in the head and the arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, where she died, police said.

Over 2,700 people have died from gun violence in Chicago this year, according to statistics compiled by the Chicago Tribune, making the city one of the country’s most unsafe.

“This is one particular time our family wished we didn’t have to be speaking to the media about anything”, Jolinda Wade said. More than 2,600 people have been shot in the city, mainly on the South and West sides.

Tragedy struck Dwyane Wade’s family Friday.

Police said they are questioning at least one person in connection with the incident, CBS Chicago reported. “We’re going to try to help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction”. In 2012, Wade’s nephew survived two gunshot wounds in his leg during an attack that killed another man and injured 11 others. Its murder rate is higher than the more populous cities of NY and Los Angeles.
