Ryan Lochte Charged By Rio Police For Filing A False Robbery Claim

A copy of the indictment also will be sent to the International Olympic Committee’s ethics commission.

Surveillance footage only backed Brazilian police’s story, as the swimmers were seen exiting the Rio gas station.

Feigen, who initially stood by Lochte’s account, was not charged.

An extradition treaty exists between the United States and Brazil, but if Lochte is convicted USA authorities could also choose not to extradite the swimmer.

Lochte claimed armed assailants pulled over the auto he and three other swimmers were traveling in and that one of the assailants put a gun to his head and stole his money. The judge then increased the fine to $46,875. Feigen spoke to his attorneys and rejected the deal, and the fine was then upped to almost $47,000 before the two sides agreed on$10,800.

Ryan has since apologized for his behavior at the gas station when he told NBC News that he and three other American swimmers were robbed by men masquerading as police officers.

In a tweet on Thursday, Lochte said: “Thanks to all the folks at Pine Bros for your confidence in me”. Authorities in the United States could take the same stance if Mr Lochte is found guilty.

That is now the case with the head of Brazil’s football confederation, Marco Polo del Nero, who faces charges in the wide-ranging scandal entangling worldwide soccer’s ruling body, FIFA.

Lochte is also rumored to appear on season 23 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, alongside Amber Rose and possibly Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice.

Lochte has already lost out on major endorsement deals with Speedo and Ralph Lauren, with the loss of earnings valued at approximately $1 million.

Brazilian police, however, don’t appear to be as forgiving as Pine Bros.

“We all make mistakes, but they’re rarely given front-page scrutiny”.
