On Wednesday, media reports emerged that Pyongyang had launched a ballistic missile from a submarine in the Sea of Japan.

In March, the UNSC introduced tough sanctions against Pyongyang for its missile tests, including restricting exports of certain North Korean raw materials, revenue from which was used to fund its nuclear program.

He said the larger worry should be North Korea’s current Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) project.

Earlier this month, the 15-member council had been unable to agree on a USA -drafted statement to condemn North Korea’s August 3 launch of a ballistic missile that landed in or near Japanese-controlled waters.

The Council stressed that it condemns all of North Korea’s missile activities, not just the most recent launches, reiterating the importance of maintaining stability in the region through peaceful, diplomatic means.

The statement also noted that the members “expressed serious concern” about a series of other tests, six of which were carried out in April, May and June in “flagrant disregard of the repeated” Security Council statements.

Following the SLBM test, which took place at 05:30 KST on Wednesday, Park convened an emergency National Security Council (NSC) to discuss the event.

North Korea’s Kim Jong Un ordered the construction of new submarines so Pyongyang has the capability to fire off multiple rounds of SLBMs.

Jon said that the latest submarine-launched missile didn’t cause any harm to the security of neighboring countries.

It’s also extremely unlikely they could get a submarine within range of the US coast: The new North Korean missile only appears to have a range of about 600 miles.

According the South Korean military, this is the longest flight by the missile of the kind for North Korea.

The council members also “stress the importance of working to reduce tensions in the Korean Peninsula and beyond”, which was language added from the original draft circulated on Thursday to all 15 members. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
