Nevada has become a popular stop for presidential candidates after moving up in the nominating order in 2008. Laxalt is hosting the inaugural Basque Fry on Saturday at a ranch in Gardnerville.
Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker will host a public meet-and-greet at the Washoe County Republican Headquarters tonight. Morning in Nevada, Laxalt’s political action committee, will sponsor the event, which is already sold out with more than 1,800 tickets for candidates and staff, reporters and party activists. Fiorina referenced one of the menu items – a Basque stew featuring “lamb fries”, or lamb testicles – in a riff about sexism against female candidates.
Nevada Democrats have jabbed at the event, dubbing it a “cattle call” and scheduling a press conference Friday to highlight what they call “the disastrous records” of the candidates scheduled to attend.
All 12 other Republican candidates have been invited to speak at the event.
