Man arrested in fatal stabbing of two nuns in Mississippi

Merrill’s sister Rosemarie, speaking by telephone from her Stoneham, Massachusetts, home, said her sister had been in MS helping the poor since 1981 and had previously worked in Holly Springs, where she used to ride around on a moped and was instrumental in locating the source of a tuberculosis outbreak.

An arrest has been made in the shocking murders of two nuns in Mississippi. Their bodies were found Thursday after they failed to show up at a clinic for work.

Clinic workers called police when the pair didn’t arrive at the clinic, said Maureen Smith, a spokeswoman for the Catholic Diocese of Jackson.

When authorities arrived at their home in Durant, 13 miles away from the clinic, they saw evidence of a break-in and found their bodies, she said.

Police said 46-year-old Rodney Sanders was an early person of interest and announced capital murder charges against him overnight. He added: “With the cooperation of the Durant and Kosciusko Police Departments, Holmes County Sheriff’s Department and the Attorney General Office this heinous crime has been resolved”.

He did not provide additional information on the arrest. Look at Jesus on the cross: “‘Father, forgive them for they know not what they do'”.

The Rev. Greg Plata of St. Thomas Catholic Church, where they attended Mass, said they were “just good women, women of prayer”.

“We basically cried and told our stories about them and talked about how important they were to us”, he said.

The Lexington Medical Clinic is officially closed until Monday.

The clinic where the women worked served underinsured and uninsured people in the poorest county in the state.

Diane Curtis, director of communications for Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, based in Nazareth, Kentucky, tells The Associated Press in a statement early Saturday: “Our congregation expresses gratitude to all who have been working so hard on this investigation”. “They make minimum wage”. A wake for the nuns will be held Sunday at their MS parish.
